Jul 16th 2021 · Day 197
Start by reading...
We are living in a world where social media is having an incredible effect on people; it’s a world where celebrities are having an influence on our lives and our views. Even Christian speakers are creating a following of people through social media. But there are also a lot of voices out there that do not speak for the true God.
The book of Jude warns us about false teachers. It says they will ‘reject authority, and blaspheme’ (v. 8). Verses 18-19 tells us, ‘“In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.’ We need to be careful about how much time we spend on social media and be wise regarding who we allow to be an influence in our lives.
There are people who cause division, and who follow a path of their own making. If we allow ourselves to be caught up in the selfish ways of the world we may become just like the scoffers we read of in Jude.
Who is it that you’re choosing to follow? Are you spending time being influenced by the posts on social media, or are you spending your time being influenced by God’s Word? Review the major influences and influencers in your life. How are they affecting your worldview? Are they speaking God’s truth? Or not? Is it time to seriously think about limiting or changing what you choose to watch, listen to, or read?
Pause and reflect: Dear Lord, help us to ‘set [our] minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth’ (Colossians 3:2). Help us not to be influenced by the wrong people, and instead of turning to the world for answers, to turn to You and Your Word. Amen.
