Sep 3rd 2021 · Day 246
Start by reading...
In 2 Chronicles 28, we read about Ahaz, and how ‘he became yet more faithless to the Lord’ (v. 22). I was thinking about how worrying these times must have been, and how influenced away from the Lord His people had become, as their king turned to other gods. Worshipping other gods ‘were the ruin of [Ahaz] and of all Israel’ (v. 23).
Nothing good will come from serving a false god. Nothing can imitate or ever come close to the real, living God. Jeremiah 10:10 tells us: ‘But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation.’
So often we put our focus, our efforts and our time into the wrong things, or even things that may be fine in themselves but may begin to take the place of God in our lives. These can become idols. I’m guilty of spending way too much time in front of the TV and thinking afterwards that my time has been wasted when I could have been doing something way more productive!
Think about what your focus is on and what you spend most of your time doing. Think of the influence it has on you and how it’s making an impact on your life and the lives around you. Then think about spending your time wisely this week, taking time aside for prayer and reading the Word of God, spending time in His presence.
No ‘idol’ is ever worth worshipping. Put your trust in Jesus; He is our hope, He is love, peace and joy.
Pause and reflect: Lord, help me to spend my time wisely, putting You first in all things. Amen.
