Angels of Light

Sam Green

Oct 1st 2021 · Day 274

Start by reading...

In 2 Corinthians 11 we read of Paul talking about false apostles, people who claim to be something they aren’t. What does that look like today?

There are so many celebrities, authorities and even religious leaders pushing their own agendas, and it’s easy to lose focus around what’s helpful and what is not. Sometimes things are not quite as they seem.

Verse 14 tells us that Satan can disguise himself, appearing as an ‘angel of light’, so we need to be discerning about who we listen to, and who we allow to speak into our lives.

Jesus does not give false information, false love, false promises. Once we choose to follow Him, He will never leave our side or let us down. He is truth and He is love.

In Jeremiah 10 we read of idols made of wood. These idols are as dead as the wood used to make them. There’s no hope, no promise, no love or truth in them.

Today, people can put all their hope in crystals, necklaces and other things, but there are other idols too. Think about how much TV we can watch, how many hours we spend on social media! Idols can be the main focus in our lives. They give us no purpose, no promise and no hope. Yet we can lose countless hours to them.

We need to be aware of the idols that take up our time. But we also need to be aware of the false teachers and prophets who may claim and promise something, but it’s not from God. Let’s ask Jesus for the wisdom to know what may be an ‘angel of light’ in our lives!

Pause and reflect: Ask God for discernment about what’s true and what’s false so you can make good choices today.
