Following the Lamb

More amazing pictures when we read this chapter of Revelation! It’s like we’re looking right into heaven, a realm that is currently hidden from us.

One line stands out for me. Verse 4 tells us of people who ‘follow the Lamb wherever he goes’. While we may get carried away with apocalyptic language here, and find it exciting, breath-taking, frightening, disturbing, whatever – this one comment is worth thinking about.

What would it really mean to follow Jesus, wherever He led me? What if He asked me to go somewhere that I found difficult, and didn’t want to face? Think: If we had a choice of a pleasant stroll through a lovely park without Jesus, or battling through a wilderness of stinging nettles and brambles with Him, which would we choose?

Life is hard at times, but we are commended, when we go through all sorts of trials, when we keep our faith in Jesus (see v. 12). Loyalty to God is paramount, whatever our life looks like. He may have asked us to walk through a season we really don’t want to. Can we still keep our eyes on Him, and follow Him? Or in disappointment, will we turn away?

Or maybe He is asking us to go somewhere, do something that we feel is ‘too much’ for us. ‘Lord, I could never do that! I could never go there. I could never help that person/be involved in that ministry.’ The point is, if this is where the Lamb is leading us, we can be sure that we are not alone, whatever the task He may be asking us to carry out. And He will equip us for service.

Pause and reflect: What might following Jesus ‘wherever he goes’ look like for you today?
