Have you ever looked up at the sky at night and seen the billions of stars? Have you ever walked up a mountain, or a high hill, and looked at the forests and vast valleys stretched out below?
I love the verses in Job describing how God ‘stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing. He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them’ (Job 26:7-8). It is a great description of how marvellous and wonderful our God really is. Then in Job 26:14 we read, ‘Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him!’ So the awesomeness we see and encounter and contemplate is actually but a ‘whisper’ of who God is!
What I find even more amazing is that this God, who created all those stars, all those breath-taking views, wants to know us, talk with us and have a love relationship with us. He loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on a cross for all our sin. The same God who created all those wonders loves us that much.
God’s creation is beautiful – sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, the majestic oceans, woods, meadows, from the greatest view to the smallest detail: a butterfly’s wing, the pattern on a flower’s petal. This same God cares about the detail of our own lives. The One who ‘covers the face of the full moon’ (Job 26:9) is the One who knows and cares about our secret hopes, dreams and hurts.
Pause and reflect: If you can, go for a walk or look at a beautiful view. If this isn’t possible, try to remember or visualise something that has made you wonder at the beauty of creation. Thank God and praise Him for who He is.
