All Things New

As we come to the end of the book of Revelation and God’s plan for this present earth, we are given a glimpse of the next stage in God’s plan.

It is interesting to note that God, who recorded the beginning of all things, through the writing of a human being (traditionally thought to be Moses), is the same God who recorded how it will all end, through the authorship of the disciple John. The opening chapters of Genesis tell us of the start of everything, the origin of humankind, our fall away from God. But One would come to save us. God Himself would come as our rescuer.

In Revelation 21 we are we are introduced to what will happen after Christ has ruled on earth for 1,000 years. ‘Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth,’ says John, ‘… And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away”’ (vv. 1-4).

This wonderful future is promised to all whose names ‘are written in the Lamb’s book of life’ (v. 27). This is such a great promise for all those who know Jesus; that there is a happy ending, after the trials, difficulties and sorrows (as well as joys!) of this present life. It is a time when God will make ‘all things new’ (v. 5). Praise God!

Pause and reflect: Who are you praying for today – is it for someone who doesn’t yet know Jesus?
