Start by reading...
Reading this passage in Revelation 22 gave me a bit of a wake-up call. In verses 1-5, the writer, John, describes a vision the Lord gave him. The specific verses that stood out to me were verses 4 and 5: ‘They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign for ever and ever.’
Reading verse 5 felt like God was speaking directly to me and my situation. Since a young child, I have always struggled with a fear of the dark, even to the point of having to sleep with a light on every night. I believe this verse is Jesus saying, ‘When I return, there will be no more torment or suffering for you. Although there’s pain in the night now, joy is coming, with the rising of the sun, the coming of the King.’
Verse 4 implies, when Jesus returns, He will know who belongs to Him, those who are His people, because His name will be written on their foreheads. We need to be prepared for when Jesus returns because we don’t know the day (Matthew 24:36-44). Therefore, we must always make sure we are putting Jesus as our first priority and ensuring that when He returns, we are ready (Matthew 25:1-13)!
Let’s finish these notes with the words of Jesus: ‘Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end’ (vv. 12-13).
Pause and reflect: Jesus is alive. He is real. And He cares for you. If you don’t know Him, ask Him to reveal Himself to you. If you do, thank Him that your future is assured. ‘Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!’ (v. 20).
