God: Beginning and End

One thing jumps out at me as I read Psalm 90. Verse 2 says: ‘Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.’

Our earthly minds cannot fully understand this. I remember as a child quizzing my mum, ‘There must be a beginning and there must be an end?’ She used to tell me that God is the beginning and there is no end, as we will live with Him for eternity!

Still, I couldn’t understand eternity. It is the same for all of us; we can’t comprehend eternity fully with our earthly minds. We must believe in faith that God is ‘everlasting to everlasting’; we must believe God’s Word on this. God lives and reigns ‘from everlasting to everlasting’! God does not suffer any of the negative aspects of living in time that we do. He is outside time as we know it. In heaven there is no night, and when we are in heaven, we won’t need to sleep as we won’t get tired! One day we will have heavenly bodies, just like Jesus’ own resurrected body (Philippians 3:21). Time to get rid of that big comfy bed!

I was recently asked by my granddaughter, ‘How do you know that you are going to heaven to be with God for eternity?’ I replied, ‘I know that I know, and I have full assurance that I will be in heaven one day!’ That assurance comes from knowing Jesus Christ.

Pause and reflect: Do you have that assurance that when you leave this earth, you are going to heaven? You can ask Jesus into your life today: ‘Lord, please come into my life. Forgive me for all I have done to hurt you and others. I would like this eternal life that You give. Please be my Saviour and my Lord. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.’
