Mar 2nd 2021 · Day 61
Start by reading...
When Jesus died on the cross, He accomplished everything we will ever need to be right with God. It’s not about works – what we do; it’s about what He has done. Under the old covenant, sacrifices had to be offered again and again, to cleanse people from their sin and make them acceptable to God. But Hebrews 10:10 tells us that we have been ‘sanctified’ through Jesus’ sacrifice, ‘once for all’. He has done it all! Under this new covenant, this new agreement, we find a whole new life.
Verse 16 tells us that God makes this covenant with us, putting His laws on our hearts, and writing them on our minds. How amazing is that?
And in verse 17, we read God saying: ‘I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.’ Verse 18 goes on to say that where there is forgiveness, there is no need for any more sin offering.
It’s done! Our sins are paid for. We can be forgiven. Jesus took the burden, the weight, we could never bear, and paid the price for all our wrong thinking, wrongdoing – everything. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says: ‘For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.’ If we belong to Jesus, God does not see our sin any longer. It is on the cross. That means we can walk free. Of course, it doesn’t mean we are then free to behave as we like. If you are anything like me, I am so grateful to God that I want to live to please Him. He gives us His Holy Spirit to give us the power to do just that.
Pause and reflect: Is there anything you feel God might not be able to forgive you for? Read Hebrews 10, and remember that Jesus has paid the price, and that God is willing to give you a new heart and mind!
