Start by reading...
So many things can distract us, and call us away from a close walk with Jesus! When we focus on the stresses and worries of life, we can find our faith, our peace, being eroded. Worries are a bit like plants. The more you feed them, the more they grow. But they’re not the healthy kind of plants we want in the garden of our lives. They’re weeds, choking out the ‘good stuff’ God wants to do in us, as we grow ever closer to Him.
In Luke 12:22-34, Jesus tells us not to worry. You might find yourself thinking, ‘That’s easy for You to say, Lord! But what about my circumstances? How am I going to manage? I’m so scared that this will happen. I’m so worried about [fill in the blank].’
‘You’re valuable to Me,’ says Jesus. ‘Don’t worry. I know what you need. Make Me your treasure, your focus. Don’t focus on the rest. Let Me handle that.’
We often fret and worry over things we often can’t change (v25). Can we learn to let go of them, and trust God with the things that are too big for us? Perhaps, as we do, we’ll see how small they are in comparison to how great God is. That’s not being glib; things that trouble us can’t simply be swept aside. But we can know peace and comfort, when we realise that the One who knows all things, and loves us, is ‘in it with us’.
Let’s focus on Jesus today, so we’re ready to listen to Him, serve Him, and ultimately, meet with Him (v40). When worries appear, let’s uproot them and lay them at the feet of the One who gently calls us to trust Him.
Pause and reflect: Imagine your life as a garden. What good things are being planted there by Jesus? And what things might He be asking you to allow Him to root out?
