Mar 31st 2021 · Day 90
Start by reading...
I’ve enjoyed journeying, with a group of men, over the last nine months in a discipleship programme. The foundation is a love relationship with God and a commitment to a daily quiet time of the Word and prayer. When reading the Word, we began using a technique we called the ABCs: ask questions of God’s Word and record, choose a best verse, best thought, and communicate back to God in prayer… for some of the men, young believers, these were their first-ever moments of ‘meditation’!
One of the early scriptures that we memorised and shared together was a word that God gave to Joshua: ‘This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success’ (Joshua 1:8).
The Hebrew word for ‘meditate’ here means an active recitation; in essence, re-speaking God’s words. Joshua is charged by God to meditate on the Word, memorise it and in every way conform himself to it… then he would have it ready in him for all occasions!
It’s important to read the Bible daily. In doing so we grow in faith, and mature in our walk with God. But it isn’t just about reading the Word, it’s about putting it into practice! The call of God on our lives is for ministry and mission. When we know God’s Word, and act on it, we will ‘be competent, equipped for every good work’ (2 Timothy 3:17)!
Pause and reflect: Do you wish you could see more of God’s dynamic ways and works and wonders in your life? Will you commit to meditate on His Word and trust Him for the spectacular?
